TopDesk - switch between windows faster
One of the greatest features available in the Windows Vista operating system is the task switching features that can be activated by pressing the Windows and TAB key together. This feature was not available in older Windows versions and the users of XP, for example, had to use the old alt+tab combination in order to switch between tasks. Even though the new task switching feature in Windows Vista and 7 is great, it may still not please some users. For example, if the user doesn't hold the Windows key and TAB any more, the task switching window disappears. Not to mention the fact that the key combination cannot be modified. Fortunately, there is a software that can do all this and that's TopDesk. It's a software that resembles the Windows task switching function, but has much more features than this one.
The installation process of TopDesk is point and click and takes little time to complete. The program can run in almost any version of Windows, not just Windows Vista and 7. The installation process allows selecting the quality of the animation displayed when switching task. A better quality means a higher system resource consumption.
When double clicking on the program's executable, an icon will be placed in the system tray. At this point, the key combination defined by the program can be used. Advanced users can change the keys from the program's options. The number of options available is quite large and allows complete modification of the software's functionality.
TopDesk can be set to use the 16 or 32 bit mode, depending on how powerful the hardware configuration is. Besides that, some tips can be displayed when switching between running programs.
Pros:
It features a lot of options for customizing the functionality and the look and feel. Besides that, the key combination can be changed. Furthermore, it allows changing the quality of the animation, according to the amount of system resources available.
Cons:
The Options section of the program features a lot of different settings and, as such, beginners might get a bit confused.
TopDesk is a great replacement for the default Windows task switching utility, adding a lot of new features.
